Afterflow & Aftergrow

By Kelly Sullivan Walden, co-author of Dreaming Heaven

It is one thing to have it all figured out in Teotihuacán, “a place where men become Gods—and women become Goddesses”—but to maintain access to this level of love and clarity back home in rush hour traffic, paying bills, driving the carpool—now that is a feat worthy of a true hero.

I vowed to do everything in my power to EMBODY the energy of Teotihuacán when I came home, as a way to honor Quetzalcoatl, Lee, Gini, and Frank, for their amazing teachings…and all the Toltecs that went before who were transformed by the alchemy of this place where one awakens to God.

As we come down from the pyramid—literally and figuratively—and back to our “ordinary” world, we have some integrating to do. Just as in any hero’s journey, the task of the hero is to become all that has been learned and share those new gifts with the world back home. Not in a way that proselytizes, but in a way that genuinely contributes clarity, healing, and revitalizing energy back to life on the ranch…so to speak.

We are at choice as to who we are and what kind of dream we wish to experience. And if we should choose the dream of Heaven on Earth, so be it!

I know, for me, there were a few bumpy days as part and parcel of my re-entry. I remember getting a call from my sister the day I arrived home that quickly escalated into an argument because she thought I sounded weird. I’m sure I did. It takes some time to re-enter completely.

During my re-entry I remember taking lots of naps, writing pages and pages in my journal, and spacing out as I did mundane things, like the dishes, because I’d be remembering Lee guiding me through the plazas, Frank playing his guitar, a meditation Gini led, or I’d get a whiff of desert air, or I’d remember the way it felt to be altered on the alter in front of the moon.

I’ve been to Teotihuacán several times since this particular journey I’ve written about in this series of travel-blogs…however, this journey is memorialized forever in the movie Dreaming Heaven, and I believe I am still unpacking the lessons learned…and will be my entire life.

One thing I do know is, upon my return it was my choice and my charge to come back down to the dusty earth, and take the clarity and love from this ancient city of rocks and stone, back to the hustle and bustle of tinsel town, a place that, for now, I call home.
